However, it all starts with proper surface preparation. Coatings adhere less effectively to sharp edges than to flat or rounded surfaces. Sharp edges create weak points where the coating layer becomes thinner than intended. This phenomenon is known as the edge effect.    <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Coatings Adhere Less Effectively to Sharp Edges<\/h4>\n<p>Due to surface tension during the curing process, coatings tend to pull away from sharp corners. This results in a thinner coating layer or, in some cases, completely uncoated areas. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Thin Coating Layers Lead to Faster Corrosion<\/h4>\n<p>Insufficient coating thickness at edges leaves the steel exposed to moisture, oxygen, and aggressive chemicals, accelerating corrosion. They specify how thoroughly steel must be prepared before a coating is applied, including requirements for edge rounding. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"665\" data-end=\"698\">P1 \u2013 Basic Preparation<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For projects where coating performance requirements are less demanding, P1 preparation is often sufficient. Typical examples include indoor applications and temporary structures. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>P1 is the minimum preparation standard<\/li>\n<li>Only major imperfections are removed<\/li>\n<li>Suitable for indoor applications or structures with a limited service life<\/li>\n<li>Welds and sharp edges may remain relatively rough, provided they do not present a direct risk to coating adhesion or coverage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>P2 \u2013 Enhanced Preparation<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>P2 is the most commonly specified finishing grade for industrial applications. This allows our specialists to create the required radius with great precision. During quality control, each component is inspected to ensure compliance with the specified finishing standard.  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At Ferris, we serve many clients in industries such as manufacturing, chemical processing, and petrochemicals. As a result, a large proportion of our steel structures are finished according to the highest P3 standard. This is only possible thanks to the craftsmanship and dedication of our specialists\u2014and we are proud of that.   <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, achieving P3 quality also requires a significant amount of labour-intensive manual work. Since no machine on the market met our requirements, we decided to take matters into our own hands and develop our own <em><strong>automated P3 production line<\/strong><\/em>.  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"959\" data-end=\"1081\">\n<p data-start=\"961\" data-end=\"1081\"><strong>Collaboration<\/strong><br \/>\nBased on our concept, we partnered with <strong data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"995\">Crombeen Engineering<\/strong> and machine manufacturer <strong data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1035\">W\u00f6hler GmbH<\/strong> to develop an entirely new machine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1211\">\n<p data-start=\"1084\" data-end=\"1211\">The Result<br \/>\nA patented machine specifically designed for the automated finishing of steel profiles in accordance with the <em><strong data-start=\"1194\" data-end=\"1208\">P3 standard<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1301\">\n<p data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1301\"><strong>The Benefits<\/strong><br \/>\nThis innovation will allow us to work faster, more consistently, and more efficiently.
